Honors in Economics and Business

The EC-BU department offers a departmental honors program, through which cadets may receive recognition of departmental honors at graduation. Requirements are that the cadet:

  • have a 3.2 GPA overall
  • have a 3.2 GPA in the area of research (economics or business)
  • have a faculty mentor to supervise their research
  • have the endorsement of the departmental honors committee prior to the research beginning
  • have the endorsement of the department head prior to the research beginning
  • enroll in and successfully complete either EC 470 or BU 470. (see descriptions below)
  • present the results of their research to the departmental faculty and receive the endorsement of the majority of the faculty present for the presentation

EC 470, Honors Research in Economics, 0-6-3

Designed for cadets pursuing independent research under the direction of a faculty member leading to departmental honors. Prerequisite: A 3.2 GPA overall and in all economics courses. Permission of instructor, department honors committee, and the department head.

BU 470, Honors Research in Business, 0-6-3

Designed for cadets pursuing independent research under the direction of a faculty member leading to departmental honors. Prerequisite: A 3.2 GPA overall and in all business courses. Permission of instructor, department honors committee, and the department head.

Cadets enrolled in the Institute Honors program are eligible for departmental honors if they meet the criteria listed above, in addition to meeting the requirements for institute honors. Cadets who do not meet the criteria for institute honors may receive department honors.
