Lacrosse, or Lax, is a team sport that formed as early as the 12th Century. It is played with a small rubber ball and metallic sticks with a net at the end of each lacrosse stick. The purpose of the game is to use the strung mesh of the stick to throw the ball into the opponent’s goal. Each goal counts as a single point for the scoring team. The lacrosse sticks range in size, as does the mesh. Similar to basketball in strategy and hockey in roughness, lacrosse has become popular along the east coast and is gradually expanding. The game consists of four fifteen minute quarters, with overtime if necessary.

The VMI Club Lacrosse team is composed of cadets from all classes. The team participates in games at home and abroad, as well as organized tournaments in both the Fall and Spring semesters. As a club sport located in Virginia, the team participates in the Blue Ridge Conference.
