Faculty Position in Computer and Information Sciences (full-time)

The Virginia Military Institute invites applications for a tenure-track position at the instructor/assistant/associate level beginning in August 2014 or January 2015. Ph.D. or ABD in computer science, information science or systems, mobile computing or a closely related field is required. The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate courses at both the introductory and advanced level in both computer and information sciences and establish a research program involving undergraduates in his or her area of expertise. The standard teaching load is three courses per semester with approximately 20 students per course. Performance is measured based on teaching, scholarly engagement, professional citizenship, and cadet development.

VMI’s current Computer Science program is being revised to reflect a broader applied curriculum.. We are expanding our faculty and course offerings, and new hires will contribute significantly to the process.

Founded in 1839 as the nation’s first state military college, VMI is a top-ranked, public liberal arts college offering B.S. and B.A. degree programs in engineering, the sciences, the social sciences, and the humanities. Located in the Shenandoah Valley in historic Lexington, Virginia, the campus sits on 134 acres, 12 of which are designated as a National Historic District. The Shenandoah Valley stretches 200 miles across the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains. The natural scenic beauty of the area is accompanied by a variety of recreational opportunities and historic sites. Lexington (population 7,500) is located approximately three hours from Washington, D.C., and 2 hours from the Richmond metropolitan area.
