VMI Community Updates
Institute leadership continues to communicate important information for cadets, their families, faculty & staff, and the VMI community at-large:
- VMI's in-person open houses are the best way for high school juniors and seniors to see and experience first-hand what it's like being cadet at VMI. Students will learn about all aspects of the VMI experience and have the opportunity to stay overnight in barracks with a current cadet as a host. Register today for a spring event!
- The VMI Archives website has migrated to a new site: libguides.vmi.edu/archives. Automatic redirects have been implemented to ease this transition, but site visitors are encouraged to update any saved bookmarks accordingly.
- Did you know? Institute Merit Scholars receive awards from $5,000 to the full cost of tuition and room and board per academic year. These scholarships are awarded only to incoming cadets prior to matriculation. Learn more about eligibility and terms. Applications for VMI's Institute Scholars program are due no later than February 15, 2025.
- The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2025-2026 is now live. Explore the Office of Financial Aid site to find information on how the FAFSA is used to determine need, how to apply for financial aid, and additional funding opportunities.

The Corps is Headed Back to Washington
The Presidential Inaugural Committee has selected the VMI Corps of Cadets out of a record number of applicants to march in the Jan. 20 inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States. This will be the 16th inauguration in which VMI cadets have marched.

Homiak Named New Chief of Staff
Retired U.S. Marine Corps Col. Travis Homiak ’95, former commanding officer of the Naval ROTC unit at Virginia Military Institute, has been named VMI’s new chief of staff, assuming the position most recently held by Col. John Young.

A seasonally cool morning warmed into a day full of happiness and celebration in a crowded Memorial Hall at Virginia Military Institute, as families and friends gathered to witness 38 cadets cross the stage to receive their diplomas during the commencement ceremony Dec. 19.
