P. Wesley Foster, Jr., is chairman and chief executive officer of Long & Foster Real Estate Companies — Long & Foster® Real Estate, Inc., Prosperity Mortgage Company®, Mid-States Title® Insurance Agency, Inc., and Long & Foster Insurance Agency, Inc. He founded Long & Foster Real Estate in 1968 with Henry A. Long, and in July 1979 he became sole owner when he bought out his partner.
Mr. Foster is a 1956 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute, where he was a guard on the football team, playing three years of varsity ball. As a senior, he was a member of the Honor Court, President of the Officer of the Guard Association, and Corps Editor of The Bomb, the cadet yearbook. He has served on the Board of Trustees of the VMI Foundation, the Board of Governors of the VMI Keydet Club, and presently serves on the Board of Visitors. He is the recipient of the Foundation’s highest honor, The Distinguished Service Award. In September 2006, VMI’s Football Stadium complex was dedicated P. Wesley Foster, Jr. Stadium, Class of 1956.
Upon graduation, he was commissioned in the United States Army and served as an artillery officer until 1959. For his military service he received The U.S. Army Commendation Ribbon with Medal Pendant. After his military service, he joined Kaiser Aluminum in their Residential Products Division. At Kaiser he ran a national program in 15 cities across the United States to promote aluminum building products with home builders.
He began his real estate career in 1963 as sales manager for new homes with Minchew Corporation in Fairfax, Virginia. Between 1966 and 1968 he served as sales manager for Nelson Realty in Fairfax. He personally sold over $1,000,000 in residential real estate each year for five consecutive years.
Mr. Foster served as 1987 chairman of the Washington/Baltimore Regional Association and is past chairman of The Business Development Bureau of The Greater Washington Board of Trade. Mr. Foster has served on the metro board of directors of First American Bank, the board of directors of First American Bank of Maryland and the board of directors of First Union National Bank of Virginia. He presently serves on the board of directors of Lane Industries, Inc. of Meriden, Connecticut.
Mr. Foster and his wife, Betty, live in McLean, Virginia, and have three grown children and six grandsons. Mr. Foster was born November 25, 1933.
