Mr. Gregory R. Wright, Jr., VMI Class of 1995
LEXINGTON, Va., Dec. 9, 2005 - Mr. Gregory R. Wright Jr., a 1995 graduate of Virginia Military Institute, was killed in northern Iraq on Dec. 7, 2005, according to an obituary appearing in today's Virginian-Pilot.
Mr. Wright, 32, was a civilian providing security services. He earned a degree in history, was a member of the football team for two seasons, and participated with the VMI Theatre. After graduation, Mr. Wright served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an infantry officer and as a military intelligence officer. He left military service in 2000.
He is survived by his parents, Gregory and Joan Wright; his brother, John Wright of Virginia Beach; his grandmothers, Marion Sullivan of Morrisonville, N.Y., and Christine Wright of Randolph, N.J.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments located at 2002 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, Va., from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11 and from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church located at 36th Street and Atlantic Avenue at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13. An Irish wake will follow at the Cavalier Country Club. A graveside service is scheduled at Quantico National Cemetery at noon, Wednesday, Dec. 14
The cemetery is located midway between Washington, DC and Fredericksburg, Va., off Interstate 95 at South bound Exit 150B and North bound Exit 150 onto Route 619 West. Proceed three-quarters of a mile on Route 619 West to the cemetery entrance on the left. Directional signs are posted on I-95 and Rt. 619.
