Accreditation by AACSB—International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, has been the major focus of the economics and business faculty this year.
The Major Field Test in Business
The Class of 2008 continued with a fine record of performance on the Educational Testing Service’s Major Field Test—Business (MFTB).
Our Mission Statement
The department’s mission statement has been the focal point of our drive toward accreditation. This year, we expanded our focus to include a vision statement and a statement of values.
Our faculty have been hard at work publishing research in academic journals as well as presenting their research at various conferences around the country and the world.
Over the past academic year, our cadets were fortunate enough to hear from three speakers. Mr. Shawn Redgate of US Trust, Mr. Oliver Kuttner, a local land developer, and Dr. Gregory Clark of the University of California at Davis.
The VMI Undergraduate Research Initiative (URI) was established by directive of the Dean of Faculty to more fully integrate student scholarly inquiry into the VMI experience.
The Cadet Investment Group
The Cadet Investment Group (CIG) was founded in 1986 by the VMI Foundation. The group’s mission is to learn about investing. To do this, members serve as investment analysts and portfolio managers.
In the summer of 2007, five cadets participated in the inaugural summer of the department’s “internship for credit” program.
Richmond Federal Reserve Bank Field Trip
On December 5, 2007, Col. Gutermuth and 16 of her Money and Banking students toured the Richmond Federal Reserve Bank. They had the opportunity to meet with several alumni as well as the Mr. Jeff Lacker, the President of the Richmond Fed and member of the FOMC.
The Annual ODE Banquet to honor our top cadets was held on April 8th.
Calling all members of the Classes of 1993 and 2003.
