The Summer Undergraduate Research Institute (SURI) provides a structured program and financial support for research projects conducted during the summer at VMI. Cadets engage in in-depth research with their faculty mentor while receiving course credit.
Research pairs are each comprised of one VMI cadet and one VMI faculty mentor, with the cadet being the principal investigator. Cadets and mentors participating in the program each receive a taxable award.
In addition to the mentored research projects, SURI sponsors an orientation, guest speakers, library instruction, and a symposium with presentations by the cadet researchers.
Faculty and cadets from all VMI academic departments are encouraged to apply. The application process is competitive. Reviewers are drawn from members of the Undergraduate Research Committee.
Proposals for the 2017 Summer Undergraduate Research Institute are being accepted until February 15, 2017. VMI cadets and mentors should review the SURI Policy before submitting the SURI application. Links to the documents can be found in MyVMI on the VCUR page.
