Strengthen Academics

First and foremost, VMI is a college

Whichever of VMI’s 14 majors he or she pursues, each cadet receives an education characterized by a dedicated faculty, excellent facilities, and a small student-faculty ratio, as well as exceptional opportunities for undergraduate research, international study, and internships. The Center for Leadership and Ethics prepares cadets for leadership in all walks of life, and the Institute Honors program helps each high-achieving cadet realize his or her full academic potential.

VMI can boast of career placement at greater than 90 percent within five months of graduation. Support of VMI academics is an investment in success.

Merit Scholarships

Merit scholarships help the Institute attract young people of demonstrated academic potential and intellectual curiosity and reward cadets who thrive in VMI’s demanding academic environment.

Need-Based Scholarships

Need-based scholarships ensure that the cost of a VMI education never prevents a deserving young person from reaping its benefits.

Faculty Development

Providing VMI’s accomplished faculty ample opportunities for professional development – such as research and publishing – will ensure that our professors continue their proud record of service to cadets.

Jackson Hope Fund

The Jackson Hope Fund is a unique source of support for new academic initiatives and faculty development. Since its creation in 2001, the fund has bolstered the Institute's academic programs and advanced VMI's reputation as a premier undergraduate college.

Academic Support

VMI's academic support programs are dedicated to helping individual cadets achieve their academic and professional goals while providing funds for research, travel, and the Institute Honors Program.

Preston Library

Preston Library is a center for academic inquiry, cadet and faculty research, and lifelong learning. It also houses the VMI Archives, the repository of the Institute's historic records, which is in need of renovation.
