Job Duties:

The Office of Admissions at Virginia Military Institute is seeking qualified candidates for a College Access Coach.

The College Access Coach’s purpose is to serve as the primary recruiter for VMI in the 114 Virginia localities that are greater than 35% below the ALICE threshold. The College Access Coach will attract, recruit, and drive prospective cadets in the assigned Virginia region to apply to VMI through a variety of methods, including visiting high schools and JROTC programs, community colleges, attending state/national college fairs, conducting enrollment presentations, managing recruitment correspondence through VMI’s new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, and coordinating and assisting with on- and off-post recruitment programs. This position will engage with federal TRIO programs (e.g. Talent Search, Upward Bound) in local high schools, programs at the 23 community colleges in Virginia that work with students from underrepresented populations, and other local/school/state programs that support the secondary completion and postsecondary entry goals of Pell-eligible students.

The College Access Coach communicates daily with prospective students and families and will manage events designed to develop relationships with high school and community college counselors. This position will also support the broader mission of the Office of Admissions by assisting with general recruitment activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Experience in high education preferred or experience in K-12 education desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Experience developing relationships with a wide variety of internal and external constituencies.
  • Experience working independently and contributing as a member of a team.
  • Valid driver's license.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master’s degree preferred, but not required.
  • Prior admissions or recruiting experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with a CRM.

Additional Considerations: Territory assignment will be based on the ALICE threshold. The incumbent must be willing to reside in Virginia and frequently travel within their primary region to visit local schools, JROTC programs, and community colleges. They must also be amenable to attending events and meetings on post in Lexington, Virginia, and other recruitment regions when needed. The ideal candidate would reside in Southwest, Southern, or Central Virginia.
