Chief of Customer Service and Logistics

Virginia Military Institute is excited to announce that we will be taking applications for Chief of Customer Service and Logistics.

Job Duties

  • Manages the staff of the Physical Plant’s Motor Pool, Supply Operations, Accounts Payables, and Customer Service/Help Desk. (9 FT, 2 PT)
  • Motor pool:
    • Oversee equipment repair and maintenance for all VMI vehicles and Physical Plant equipment.
    • Responsible for shuttle driving requirements for events and VIP needs.
    • Ensure accurate recording and reporting of labor and material costs for lease vehicle and VMI owned vehicle maintenance, repairs, and recoveries.
  • Supply:
    • Responsible for the procurement of supplies and equipment to include the proper distribution, security, and storage of materials and equipment to include warehousing and inventory control.
  • Accounts Payable:
    • Responsible for the proper requisitioning, invoicing and payment processing for the Physical Plant purchases of service contracts and equipment.
  • Customer Service:
    • Promote exceptional customer service while working with shop supervisors to establish work schedules, coordinate work force, and set up return dates to perform work, using both in-house and contract resources.
    • Responsible for analyzing program success through tracking and reporting of established metrics and customer feedback.
    • Responsible for ensuring pertinent data (man-hours, materials, charge back information, and account numbers, etc.) are loaded in Megamation for proper tracking and analysis.
    • Will have oversight on the Physical Plant support efforts on all events.
  • Take the lead on developing the Physical Plant annual budget to include coordinating with the Treasurer’s Office to make account changes and requests for funding needs and making budgetary recommendations and identify priorities.
  • Maintain accurate account balances throughout the fiscal year for each Physical Plant account.
  • Ensure employees have the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to accomplish goals.
  • Assists the Deputy Director in prioritizing and justifying position vacancies within shops.
  • Ensure all personnel adhere to Physical Plant policies governing the conduct, wearing of the uniform, leave, proper operation of vehicles, etc.
  • Enforce established appearance and conduct standards to ensure the Physical Plant organization is represented to the highest level and respected in the VMI community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and communication skills.
  • Experience with various computer software applications to include but not limited to Microsoft Office and CMMS programs.
  • Knowledge of accounting procedures.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of inventory control techniques. 
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record required. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Management and Supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge of Facility Maintenance CMMS.
  • Experience with the Electronic Virginia system for procuring goods and services.
  • Accounting experience.
  • Event planning and execution.
  • College coursework or relevant experience.
