New Cadet Navigator

The New Cadet Navigator plays a vital role, serving as a resource and guide to prospective cadets, applicants and their families. This position provides high-quality service with a primary focus on assisting Pell-eligible applicants/families, as well as applicants from other HUGs, navigate the admissions and onboarding process from inquiry through matriculation.
Through a holistic model of care and using the case management approach, the New Cadet Navigator role helps decrease fragmentation of services and provides high-quality service by: 1) monitoring prospective cadet and applicant progress throughout the admission process, 2) responding to all questions/inquiries, 3) providing information about VMI majors, ROTC programs, 4) implementing a strategic, proactive communication plan that drives prospective cadets to complete each next step in the admissions process, and 5) keeping a close watch on applicant progress in the Institute’s CRM (Element 451).
The New Cadet Navigator collaborates with Strategic Enrollment Management and other Institute areas to help remove barriers to prospective cadet enrollment. The position is not expected to be an all-inclusive content matter expert; however, they will have expertise in connecting with post-wide experts that helps create a cadet-friendly admissions experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in a related field or a combination of equivalent education and experience (or any equivalent combination of training and/or experience).
- Proficient working knowledge of internet applications and PC-based software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Student Information Systems (SIS), etc.); preferably those currently utilized by VMI
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively both independently as well as part of a team and possess a desire to learn and grow as professional needs arise.
- Valid driver’s license and use of personal automobile.
Additional Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations; specifically, Pell-eligible populations and other HUGs in higher education.
- Strong interpersonal skills to help engage, provide support to, and motivate students and excellent customer service skills, including the ability to effectively follow up and follow through is a must.
- Effective oral, listening, and written communication skills
- Effective problem-solving skills.
