Summer School and STP students who are experiencing COVID-like symptoms need to schedule a rapid antigen test through the VMI Infirmary by emailing infirmary@vmi.edu. The infirmary is staffed Monday-Friday, 0700 - 1500 hours (please verify with infirmary) during the summer sessions and masking is required while in the VMI Infirmary. CDC Guidance

If you test Positive for COVID-19 (Isolate)

• Stay home for 5 days.
• If you have no symptoms or your symptoms are resolving after 5 days, you can leave your house.
• Continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days.

If you have a fever, continue to stay home until your fever resolves.

If You were Exposed to Someone with COVID-19 (Quarantine)

If you: Have been boosted
OR Completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine within the last 6 months
OR Completed the primary series of J&J vaccine within the last 2 months

• Wear a mask around others for 10 days.
• Test on day 5, if possible.

If you develop symptoms get a test and stay home. 

If You were Exposed to Someone with COVID-19 (Quarantine)

If you: Completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine over 6 months ago and are not boosted
OR Completed the primary series of J&J over 2 months ago and are not boosted
OR Are unvaccinated

• Stay home for 5 days. After that continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days.
• If you can’t quarantine you must wear a mask for 10 days.
• Test on day 5 if possible.

If you develop symptoms get a test and stay home.

How to Calculate Isolation and Quarantine

Isolation
Day 0 is your first day of symptoms or a positive viral test. Day 1 is the first full day after your symptoms developed or your test specimen was collected. If you have COVID-19 or have symptoms, isolate for at least 5 days.

Quarantine
The date of your exposure is considered day 0. Day 1 is the first full day after your last contact with a person who has had COVID-19. Stay home and away from other people for at least 5 days. Learn updated CDC guidance on quarantine and masking guidelines.

Definitions

Exposure
Contact with someone infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in a way that increases the likelihood of getting infected with the virus.

Close Contact
Someone who was less than 6 feet away from an infected person (laboratory-confirmed or a clinical diagnosis) for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. For example, three individual 5-minute exposures for a total of 15 minutes.

Up to date
Means a person has received all recommended COVID-19 vaccines, including any booster dose(s) when eligible.

Fully vaccinated
Means a person has received their primary series of COVID-19 vaccines.
