BASIC PROTOCOLS

Please find below a basic list of protocols outlined in the VMI OPLAN that will remain in place for VMI Summer Session:

  1. Cadets, faculty, and staff will observe six-foot social distancing during when entering, departing, and moving within academic buildings. Keep as far to the right as possible in hallways and stairwells, and do not loiter.
  2. If a cadet refuses to wear (if not vaccinated) a mask/facial covering, faculty are authorized to require the cadet to leave the classroom/building. Faculty must also report the cadet to the Commandant.

  3. Faculty will enforce the requirement for all class members to wipe down their desktop and chairs before taking a seat in the classroom.

  4. As the Registrar’s Office is notified of a student who has been approved for online learning (Isolation, Quarantine, etc.), an entry will be made in the Colleague database regarding the approval, and the date when the approval is approved through.  Faculty members will be able to query the Postview class lists to determine which students have been approved for online learning.  It is recommended that updated class lists be run prior to each class to determine which students have been approved for online learning.

  5. Faculty will require assigned seating in their courses in order to assist with contact tracing; seating charts will be created for each course and emailed to the Dean’s Office (dean@vmi.edu) by the end of the first week of classes.

  6. All departmental workspaces and classrooms will be reconfigured to comply with social distancing requirements. Hallways will be kept clear of furniture and equipment to facilitate movement and distancing.

  7. Students have the option of living in barracks or in Lexington and the surrounding area during the Summer Session.

  8. Students attending the VMI Summer Session may be tested (COVID) or asked to provide proof of a COVID vaccination.

  9. Students living in barracks will be quarantined/isolated in a barracks room for contact tracing and/or a positive COVID test unless proof of a COVID vaccination has been provided by the student.

  10. Students living off-Post who are required to isolate/quarantine will do so at their summer residence.
