What happens in a tutorial?
You ask some questions and we ask some questions, such as "What would you like help with?" We may read only part of your paper or all of it, and you talk about your writing concerns.

Will a Writing Center tutor proofread my paper?
We will not proofread a paper for you. That would make us better editors but wouldn't help you become a better writer. We will, however, help you learn how to be a better proofreader.

When should I come to the Writing Center?
Come before you start a paper to discuss the topic OR
Come with a draft you're working on.
If you come with a finished draft that's due the next day, expect to be frustrated that you didn’t come in sooner.

Do I need an appointment, or can I just walk in?
You'll be assured of a tutorial if you sign up ahead of time. Dates are offered at least a week in advance, so you can plan ahead. For drop-in help, come during less busy hours, such as 2-5 or 3-6 p.m. Evenings tend to be busier, so if you walk in then, you may have to wait.

Who comes to the Writing Center?
Cadets from every rank and class, from the best writers to the worst. If cadets come in once, we're likely to see them again, since they find out how much it helps to get some feedback and to talk with us about what they're writing.

Is the Writing Center just for English papers?
We help with any writing project, at any phase of the writing process. Now that there are writing intensive courses in most departments, we see everything from poetry to lab reports to engineering research to ROTC group presentations.
