A Letter from Brig. Gen. Moreschi, VMI Acting Superintendent - Nov. 3, 2020

Dear VMI Family,

The events of last week were challenging, both individually and collectively for VMI as a community. Change is hard, and causes heightened emotions. It can also distract us from our focus. Now is the time, however, for us to move on and work to secure the future of the Institute.

The Board of Visitors’ actions are the first steps in moving VMI forward in these dynamic times of social reflection while still maintaining all that is good and true about what it means to be a cadet or graduate of VMI. We have much work to do. I believe we can and will come out of this a stronger and better institution, where VMI traditions and values are securely in place but where there is a fully equitable atmosphere for all cadets, faculty, and staff.

I’ve developed a deep and abiding love for VMI in my 18+ years here, and I stand ready to work with all of you in my capacity as Acting Superintendent to meet the challenges and opportunities we have before us. With mutual support, dedication, and resolve, we will emerge from this time better prepared for our next chapter. We will continue to attract young men and women from all walks of life who desire this unique and challenging experience. With VMI’s unparalleled leadership and military opportunities plus an academic program delivered by a faculty of the highest caliber, we will produce the leaders of tomorrow who will serve the Commonwealth and nation with honor and distinction.

Respectfully,

Brigadier General Robert W. Moreschi
Acting Superintendent
Virginia Military Institute
