Details on Sept. 25 – 27 General Permit and Dine by Invite
VMI will begin to allow cadets to sign out on limited general permit privileges this weekend, Sept. 25 – 27, 2020. Eligible first class cadets (Seniors) may take the permit on Friday evening from 5 – 10:30 p.m. Eligible first and second class cadets (Seniors and Juniors) may take the permit on Saturday evening from 5 – 10:30 p.m. All permit privileges will be limited to Rockbridge County.
Additionally this Sunday, all cadets have the opportunity to leave post on a “Dine by Invite” permit. This permit allows upperclass cadets to sign out and leave post but remain in Rockbridge County between 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. accompanied by (and limited to) parents, grandparents, or legal guardians. New Cadets or Rats are allowed to sign out and leave post but remain in Rockbridge County between 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. While VMI’s positive COVID-19 cases remain low, please keep in mind the following regarding the Dine by Invite permit:
- Cadets have been away from home for more than 14 days. As such, they are no longer considered part of their parents’ “COVID-19 household.” Cadets and their parents or grandparents are to be masked at all times while maintaining 6’ distance from one another.
- All visitors to post are required to wear a face covering at all times – indoors and outdoors – while on post.
- Tailgating and picnicking on post is prohibited.
- Cadets with restrictions are not eligible to take these permits or privileges.
Cadets are required to follow all VMI COVID-19 protocols while off post. These include wearing face coverings at all times and maintaining social distance whenever possible. Failure to do so could result in disciplinary action.
These permits are approved for this weekend only. The Corps of Cadets’ conduct and their guests’ adherence to the COVID-19 protocols will determine whether future permits will be approved.
