Laroussi Part of “With Good Reason” Segment

Dr. Sabrina Laroussi, associate professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures

LEXINGTON, Va. June 4, 2024—Dr. Sabrina Laroussi, associate professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at Virginia Military Institute, discusses books about the world of Latin American drug trafficking called “narconovelas,” and how this emerging genre of literature tends to glorify drug lords and downplay the brutality of drug war violence, on the public radio program, “With Good Reason.”

In addition to Laroussi, the show, “Drugging France,” which aired in late May, features Sara Black from Christopher Newport University, Greg Wrenn from James Madison University, Tracy Sohoni from Old Dominion University, and Regina Brisgone from Norfolk State University. The episode touches on the use of mind-altering drugs to treat pain in France during the 19th century; how the television show, “CSI,” depicts drugs and violence over the course of its 15 seasons; and personal struggles of drug addiction.

“With Good Reason” is sponsored by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. Local broadcast times, as well as audio files of full programs and companion news features, are on the “With Good Reason” website.
