LEXINGTON, Va. Sept 24, 2024 — Experience the sights, sounds, and tastes of fall in 1850s Lexington, Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jackson House Museum’s Apple Day celebration. Leave the hustle and bustle of modern life behind and immerse yourself in a day of old-fashioned family fun.

“We’ve been hosting this event for 40 years,” said Maj. Grace Moyer, Jackson House Museum site director. “What I love most now is seeing families come full circle, parents who attended as children are now returning with their own kids and even their parents. It has become a cherished tradition across generations.”

Join in the age-old tradition of cider pressing, where you can crank our antique cider press. Watch as the Shenandoah Valley Civil War Era Dancers bring history to life with lively performances of period dances, or jump in and join the fun yourself!

From hands-on crafts like jewelry making, doll crafting, and toy building, to 19th century games, there’s something for children of all ages to enjoy. Storytellers will spin captivating tales of the past, while our demonstrations offer an opportunity to enjoy time together with your family and friends, unplugged from technology.

All demonstrations and activities are free. The Jackson House Museum is located at 8 E. Washington St. in Lexington. The house, store, garden, and exhibit gallery will be open during the event. Admission to the museum is free for residents of Lexington, Buena Vista, and Rockbridge County.
