VMI Math Professor Surpasses Milestone

LEXINGTON, Va. Dec. 11, 2024 — Col. Dimplekumar Chalishajar, professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics (AM) at Virginia Military Institute, reached a significant milestone few college professors realize. He recently celebrated his 121st peer reviewed research publication, surpassing his achievement of 100, just twelve months ago. The most recent paper will appear in the next issue of Chaos, Solitons and Fractals, a publication of ScienceDirect. 

Col. Troy Siemers, AM department head, acknowledged Chalishajar’s outstanding accomplishment. Col. Dimplekumar Chalishajar, professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics recently celebrated his 121st peer reviewed research publication, surpassing his achievement of 100, just twelve months ago.

For several years in a row, he has written over 10 significant papers annually. He is publishing in high-impact journals and has an impressive citation score, showing other mathematicians value his work. The fact that he can do all that, along with his teaching demands is truly extraordinary.” 

Maj. Gen. Cedric T. Wins ’85, superintendent, remarked that VMI is fortunate to have Chalishajar as a member of its faculty.

“He is steadfastly dedicated to the field of mathematics and to the education of this nation’s future leaders.” 

 Chalishajar confessed he rarely spends his weekends on leisure recreation. “My research is my passion,” he said with a warm smile. “Academicians must be dedicated to the career we have chosen. We must be in touch with new developments in our fields of study by conducting research ourselves, and by reading what others have researched. I have always found that teaching is the best way of learning.”  

A member of VMI faculty since 2008, Chalishajar is currently collaborating on a project with researchers in 10 different countries including Canada, China, Egypt, France, India, Malaysia, Napal, Senegal, Taiwan, and Thailand.  

Additionally, he sits on the editorial board of 12 journals, and on the review board of 32 journals. He reviewed 27 doctorate theses internationally, and reviewed 265 research articles for peer review journals. He also consults on projects with VMI’s Cyber Defense Laboratory 

Born and reared in India, Chalishajar received his doctorate from the Indian Institute of Science, and the University of Baroda.
