LEXINGTON, Va. Jan. 9, 2025 — The VMI Community Theatre will hold auditions for its spring show, “Murder on the Nile,” Monday, Jan. 20; Tuesday, Jan. 21; Wednesday, Jan. 22; and Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7:45 p.m. in Gillis Theater located in Marshall Hall on post.
Cadets and community members may audition any of the four evenings. Multiple adult male and adult female roles will be cast. Those interested in auditioning should come prepared to cold-read from the provided script. Stage crew members are also needed. No experience is necessary for either actors or stage crew.
The three-act play was written by Agatha Christie, based on her 1937 novel, “Death on the Nile.” Kay Ridgeway has led a charmed life. Blessed with beauty, enormous wealth, and a new husband, she embarks on a honeymoon voyage down the Nile. Fatal circumstances await when the idyllic surroundings are shattered by a shocking and brutal murder. Under scrutiny is a multitude of memorable passengers, all with a reason to kill. The tension and claustrophobia builds, as a shocking and audacious conspiracy is laid bare. In addition to Kay, the cast of characters include Miss Helen ffoliot-ffoulkes, a snooty society matron; Christina Grant, her niece; William Smith, a wise-cracking socialist; Louise, Kay’s maid; Simon Mostyn, Kay’s new husband; Dr. Bessner, a medical doctor; Canon Pennefather, clergyman and godfather to Kay; Jacqueline de Severac, Kay’s ex-best friend and Simon’s ex-fiancée; McNaught, the ship’s captain; the ship’s steward; and several bead sellers.
Performances of “Murder on the Nile” are scheduled for Friday, April 25 through Sunday, April 27. Rehearsals will be held Monday through Thursday 7:45-9 p.m., beginning Jan. 27. Specific nights will be determined after casting. For additional information, email the director, Tim Price at pricetr@vmi.edu.
