Midshipmen Battalion

The mission of the Midshipmen Battalion is to provide leadership opportunities and responsibilities to all cadets seeking a commission. The Midshipmen Battalion seeks to produce junior officers in the Navy and Marine Corps; junior officers who will be self-motivated men and women of action. The Battalion will emphasize the necessity of teamwork and team building that is essential to the objectives of the United States Navy/Marine Corps TEAM.

Chain of Command


  1. BN XO

    The Bn XO is the second most senior ranking midshipman in the NROTC MIDN Bn and is responsible for the fulfillment of the Bn CO’s intent and guidance.

    BN CO

    The Bn CO is the senior ranking midshipman in the NROTC MIDN Bn and is responsible for the administration and operational deployment of the unit. Ultimately responsible for all the NROTC MIDN Bn does and fails to do.

    BN CMC

    The Bn SGM/CMC acts as liaison to the Bn CO about morale, personnel, and duty. Responsible for the appearance and discipline of the NROTC MIDN Bn. Fills the administrative gaps that cannot be filled by the Bn CO or XO.
    1. S-Staff

      1. S-1

        The Battalion Adjutant is the head of the NROTC MIDN Bn S-1 and is responsible for tracking chits, maintaining total accountability, and tracking Midshipman Battalion awards.

      2. S-2

        The Battalion Academic Officer is the head of academics for the NROTC MIDN Bn and is responsible for the support of academic standards through the management of study hours and the publication of resources available to Midshipmen.

      3. S-3

        The Battalion Operations Officer is charged with the coordination, supervision, and execution of all Battalion-level training evolutions.

      4. S-4

        The Battalion Logistics Officer is the primary Midshipman point of contact for all NROTC MIDN Bn needs- whether they be supply, transportation, communications, or support. The S-4 is charged with both overall accountability of equipment and support of company operations.

      5. S-5

        The Bn Athletics Officer is responsible for keeping the NROTC MIDN Bn informed of NCAA and Club athletics schedules and achievements by MIDN athletes.

      6. S-6

        The Battalion Public Affairs officer is the MIDN responsible for the procurement and publication of social media content related to the operations of the NROTC MIDN Bn, and the upkeep of NROTC social media presence.

    2. Navy Co.

      1. CO

        The Midshipman Company Commander’s role is to lead the company, by way of providing intent, guidance, and supervision to subordinates. Ultimately responsible for all the Midshipman Company does and fails to do.

      2. XO

        The Midshipman Company Executive Officer is primarily involved with company operations and takes action to ensure that the Company Commander’s intent is met.

      3. SCPO

        The Midshipman Company Senior Chief Petty Officer is the primary advisor to the Company Commander, is responsible for the discipline and morale of the company; serves to mentor SNCO and NCO billet-holders.

      4. CPO

        The Chief Petty Officer works together with the Company Executive Officer to supply and oversee the training proscribed by the Company Commander.

        The Platoon Leader leads a platoon of Midshipmen, execute operations in accordance with Company Commanders Intent. Responsible for all a Midshipman Platoon does and fails to do.
